Now that his bio-pic on Sonia Gandhi is shelved, Jagmohan Mundhra is shooting his next film.
Says Mundra, "Like Bawandar and Provoke my new film Shoot On Sight is based on the life of a brave true character. Shoot On Sight is the story of a Asian Muslim cop in London who after decades of service to the Britain finds his allegiances being questioned."
Mundhra was keen to have Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Talks having failed, Mundhra has now zeroed in on Naseeruddin Shah to play the lead.
Says Mundhra, "When I approached Naseer, I didn't hide from the fact that Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bachchan had been approached for the role. Naseer was all for the film. In fact we'd have started shooting were it not for his son's accident. Now Naseer joins me in London for a start-to-finish schedule at the end of March."
Naseer's British wife is played by the distinguished British actress Greta Scachi (seen in a number of Merchant-Ivory films). Mundhra is very hopeful about the film.
"This could be Naseer's breakthrough into the international arena. Not that he's pining for it. But Naseer did A League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen which was disastrous.
I'd be delighted to see him get the recognition out West that he deserves. Shoot On Sight is a very powerful story And Naseer's sense of identification with the character would see the plot go to a new height."
